In the midst of the pop-country sounds of Martina McBride, Faith Hill and Trisha Yearwood, Missourie-born Chely Wright brought a touch of down-home, traditional sounding country music to the charts in the mid 1990s. With fierce loyalty to the roots of country music, Chely Wright is quick to point to the pioneers as her inspirations and teachers. Her role models were some of the all-time great country singers, fascinated by the sound of Buck Owens, Loretta Lynn, Connie Smith, Wanda Jackson, Porter Wagoner and Conway Twitty. Chely's music has garnered many accolades and awards from both the Country Music Association. She received the Academy of Country Music's Award for Best new Female Artist
