Donna Fargo Biography
Singer, songwriter and author, Donna Fargo, a former schoolteacher, became one of the top five female country singers of the 1970s. In terms of chart success and record sales, she stood alongside Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette and Lynn Anderson as she also became the first woman in country music history to have back-to-back million-selling singles, both of which she wrote. The Happiest Girl In The Whole USA and Funny Face topped the country charts in 1972 and crossed over to the top 20 pop charts.
Recognised as one of the leading female country songwriters, in addition to her own hits, that benefited from her distinctive, dry-throated, vocal style, her songs have also been recorded by such diverse performers as Marty Robbins, Kitty Wells, Tanya Tucker, Dottie West, Sonny James, Tammy Wynette and Jody Miller. Donna Fargo's speciality has always been the light, cheerful song with a skippy beat, epitomised by her biggest hit, The Happiest Girl In The Whole USA, a description that best describes this highly talented and distinctive performer.
